I wish I had known...
I wish I had known SOMETHING. I went over a complete blank slate, being the first among my friends or family to travel abroad.

Excellent place to study if you are a self-motivated learner. Fabulous social scene, though.

Galway was a great place to start my international experiences. This university setting helped me develop independence in my studies and personal motivation. It may be a different experience for those who are more urbane and better travelled than I was, but for a first international travel experience, I cannot recommend a better place!

I wish I had known...
I had been in Ireland before so I was quite familiar with the country, I always knew that it was the ideal place for me. I wouldn't have gone anywhere else.

If Galway is the university of your choice, you're not gonna be disappointed. But take into account that you're gonna experience a different way of living. Therefore, be open-minded and positive (never think your country is the best in everything, it's just different) and try to have fun. Make the most of your Erasmus experience cause it's a once-in-a-lifetime one.

Well, the fact that I'm still living in Galway (and I don't plan to leave the place in the near future) sums all up. I'm half Irish at this stage and love it.

The International Student Society was more geared towards the European visiting students (ERASMUS). The Americans didn't have an organization that organized trips and outings.

Travel light - you can buy almost everything there (towels, cosmetics, clothes). Make sure your accomodation is in a desirable location - can make or break your experience.

I wish I had known...
I wish I had understood that incorporatiing oneself into another culture is difficult when one is a student -- more so than if one is working.

Try as hard as possible to find Irish roommates upon arrival -- otherwise it is very easy to stick with only Americans.

Whatever you bring, you will end up wearing all the time and will get very sick of it, so don't stress too much about packing!

Galway is one of the most fun cities I have ever visited. While the school itself is not fantastic (the facilities are lacking and it is very overcrowded), the city and the people more than make up for it. You don't spend too much time in school anyway!

Try to go through a university instead of going independently. I met all of my friends through the program I went through. The weather is not as bad as most people think it is! If you are looking for a completely relaxing, fun, and memorable semester, come to Galway. It is the best decision I ever made!

taking both science and nonscience classes at the same time is difficult, and I wish I had known more about the quality of the science dept here, although it probably wouldn't have affected my decision much.

It takes a while to figure out how they have organized things, but it always worked out in the end.

From Galway you can take day trips or weekend trips all over for really cheap, so it is a good hub to stay in.
