Personal recommendation
Just select some courses for the bureaucracy's sake when signing up ... it is much easyer to change when on site. Furthermore locals have good knowledge of the quality of different courses.

There are intensive Language courses during the summer... they give you a basic knowledge ... then there are also courses during the study periods... forget them, learn by doing ... furthermore don't tell anyone that you speak english, since even rednecks are fluent in english ... and you might never learn as you theoretically don't really need it ...

Personal spending habits
As for food, telephone, accomodation and nightlife Norway is very expensive ... as is Switzerland when it comes to travelling, The only option to get around is by plane or car options that I actually used intensely, and all in all the two major airlines have quite cheap student fares ... thus use the chance. as for trips around Trondheim, sharing a rental car can be cheaper as four bus tickets. The same applies for cabs: as soon as you are four or more, forget the city transport (it sucks anyway) and call a cab.

Personal comments
To buy second hand stuff is not really necessary, as there is a REMA 1000 supermarket next door where you find all you need for good prices.

Personal comments
Most people found it pretty expensive, but coming from a country rather high price dimensions I could not complain at all. Furthermore you find a lot of facilities at as the university sports club and shops close to moholt campus. And downtown you can walk or share a cab with friends for almost nothing.
