I wish I had known...
I was prepared for going to an east european country, so I knew what to expect (I did not have high expectations for accomodation and facilities), but I was surprised for what we got! It was above my expectations. Be flexible and see everything as a big adventure, then I am sure you will have a lot of fun!

I liked Pecs a lot, it is really a beautiful town, especially when it becomes spring and summer, the country is so beautiful then! And because it is situated in the south you have easy access to Croatia, which is a totally different country. Oh take toiletpaper with you to hungary because many places don't have and prepare yourself that the toilets don't have lockers, which is really annoying at the beginning but everything gets familiar...

Travel tips: I went to Plitvice in Croatia (it is a national park, really beautiful any time of the year), we crossed war area which was pretty impressive. Transsylvania (roemenia) is great too, but you need a visa for that. But don't forget to take a look around in Hungary as well, Budapest, lake Balaton, Eger, the puszta are definately worth a visit. What impressed me as well, but you have to like it, was the communist town Ajka, Near lake balaton, build by the russians and now half of the fabrics are closed, you can see the results of fourthy years of communism. I went there with a friend who lived there and he showed me the fabrics and the lakes, they were so blue, incredible, but the lakes were heavily poisened by chemicals, it was chemical blue, and the area had a radio-activity of 5,8 so beware..

Maybe not a major academic success for me, but PTE is quite a good school with a wide range of study opporunities. But note that not nearly all of the courses they advertise take place! It really helps to be flexible when you go to Hungary!!

Pecs and Hungary are both really nice places to spend a semester. I had the time of my life and made some good friends and useful contacts around Europe.

IT was interesting and I felt I progressed further than I thought possible. With the help of the study skills department I feel confident to take my career in a new direction. The college allowed me all the access I needed and the small scale of the college provided a family atmosphere.
The course leader is excellent, but the course has been understaffed for much of the time. This impacted on availability to tutoring hours. The final show which is important for the future was not publicised properly by the college and very few people saw it as a result. This was very disappointing. The lectures were exciting and informative and the course leader was assessable. The accessible of the whole college was good, which means one could work in any media. Learning support was well managed and useful.

A quiet place

Overall
The city is rather quiet and seems to a place for study oriented students and in the first semester, you might not feel the intensity of the course since the work load won't be heavy but that changes in the 2nd semester showing you that they use the first semester to settle you down and introduce you calmly to the course. The teachers put in plenty of effort to make sure all the students understand the work and always try to create time for outside class consultation though the issue comes in looking for outside class activities to take part in. These opportunities have to be rather looked for since they won't be at your door step upon entering the university.

Pecs is a nice little city, the weather is more or less great. As a chemical student I enjoyed the top international knowledge they have here in my field, but there should be more resources for basic equipment. Otherwise I enjoyed my stay very much and I will return here as a graduate in the autumn. Got a schoolarship from CIMO.

Use Pecs as a base for traveling in any direction. As a student you get cheap tickets for the trains. But use ONLY the Intercity trains since the regular are way too slow. Gasoline is expensive - no need for a car. And enjoy the time here. For me, I suddenly run out of time. Could have spent one more month here. Still have a lot to see.
