Our Hall of Residence was close to Piazza delle Cinque Giornate, where we used to go and take something for drink to at night on Monday. There were good concerts in The Rolling Stone sale, for free if you arrived before 10 pm. Besides, Milan has such a lot of things to do: music, cinema, theater. It is a custom there to have the apetitivo in the evening, very similar to the Tapas in Spain. A good place to do so is the zone of Navigli. Living in the center as we did, I recommned to have a walk by the Corso di Vittorio Emmanuelle II. Such a nice athmosphere there. Other places to go: Transilvania Sale, LeonCavallo, Conservatorio di Milano (Concerts for free on wednesday, and very close to the Hall of Residence), Magacini Generalle. But over all enjoy of people you meet there, both from Italy and Erasmus students. Under that point of view the experience is very positive. Moreover, if you like Art, Design or Architecture, Milan is full of expositions and Fairs.

Housing
Type of housing: Hall of Residence
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Because, although the location of the Hall of Residence was great and the athmosphere and people there even better, the place was in not very good conditions.

Personal comments
My personal opinion is that the Hall of Residence needs a very strong economic investment to improve the conditions of the students living there. Besides, it was necessary to book your room with a long time in advance, to have a minimum guarantee of having a place to live when arriving at Milan. Some mates had problems in this aspect. Anyway, the Erasmus experience is great, no matter the accomodation!

Banks in Italy work in a different manner than in Spain. You had to pay commissions absolutely for everything.

I wish I had known...
If I came back to the Erasmus experience nowaday, I would enjoy it even much more, I'm sure. In any case, my experience in Milan was one of the best in my life, if not the best. Nowadays I live and work in Madrid, and I have a lot of foreign friends here. So I have taken the Erasmus with me from Milan and now it is a way of living that I can enjoy in such a big city as Madrid (Spain).

Personal recommendation
It is a good University, but you have to manage lots of thing by yourself, what is not bad at all. Simply you have to keep this in your mind, accept and enjoy the challenge.

From the moment when you arrive to the place up to when you start to understand somehting, the gestures' language get very, very important. It helps you a lot, besides English of course. I used English with my Erasmus mates in the beginning, till we could start to understand each other in italian. On ther other hand, at University and at my internship there I had to learn italian as fast as possible, in order to communicate with people. For my workmates it was difficult to work in english, as they were used to doing so in italian. For day to day life, it was mandatory to learn italian as soon as possible.
