My English was already quite good. Although I learned more slang than I knew before. I had no problems communicating with people, although they always asked me where I was from, because of my accent.

Personal recommendation
If you have a strong, open personality, you will have a good time. Since there are not many exchange students, not many special activities are organised for them; You will have to contact people yourself. Furthermore, if you only want to live in a big city than Troy is not the right place for you. If you like playing sports, RPI is the right place, since sport facilities are outstanding. Finally, if you really hate cold weather, you can better go somewhere else. In the winter it can be pretty cold.

There are a lot of bars in Troy, but many have a bad reputation. Most RPI students went to 'the Ruck', which was a nice spacy bar. If your in the mood to go to a real club, you need to go to Albany, since there are no real clubs in Troy. Furthermore, you should go to some fraternity parties to experience the real american college life. Finally, if you are in the States with spring break, you need to go to either Mexico or Florida; it's quite an experience!

Why?
Dorm room were really small and expensive. Off campus housing, on the other hand, was relatively cheap and the offered apartments were all pretty large.
