Travel inside aachen or to cologne and dusseldorf is free , comes with student pass , but anything more than that, advisable would be the weekend pass to travel throughout the NRW region, by the regional express or regional BAHN, but ICE and IC are very expensive , try avoiding as much as u can when in student stage, each ticket from frankfurt to aachen or vise versa can cost 10% of the total legal monthly earning of a international student, so one time travel , u get to expend almost 20% by ICE to and fro to aachen from frankfurt.
Coming another point of my advice would be to stick to books as much as you can and get the best of what u wanted to get here , use the professors and assistant research scholars knowledge and learn things better as people do things same like everywhere , but this people do things very differently , though they do the same things, that what is the difference between the RWTH and other universitties i feel. Learning while you work here is something a cream over a cake, helps u earn and learn the things detailedly and helps u to get the concepts clear for the exams. Never take the exam in this universtiy without preparation as three times u fail u are out of the university as a dropout.
