I was living in an international student house in Haren. The house was ok but there were two people living in one room, so there was practically no privacy at all. The rent was a bit too high (250e/month) compared to the lack of privacy. Otherwise the house was ok; good facilities, electiricity&gas included to the rent etc.

Housing
Type of housing: a room of a Dutch student studying abroad
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: a room in an apartement
Why?
It's fairly easy and cheap to find a room from the private sector in Groningen. It's an excellent way to get to know the local culture.

It was arranged well. If you didn't get a room in a dorm, the staff helped you to find a room from the private sector. The accommodation situation in Groningen is overall pretty good.

Apply for a room through the Housing Office and DO NOT choose the student house "Kornoeljestraat". Apply as soon as possible and get ready for a shared bathroom and kitchen!

International students are placed at one of several international student houses by a special housing agency which is designed to place foreigners in Groningen housing. Housing is difficult to find there without help, even for locals.

The internship was enriching. I worked with a great team of psychologists, doctors, and other therapists. I was able to gain an insight into many therapies and many individual talk therapy. I got the responsibility to lead some groups, such as the mediation group or a group therapy group.
