It was very nice to be able to speak in English all the time, even though most of the time it was with other Erasmus students for whom it's not a native language either.

Well, you can't really expect to save when going to London. The worst thing is the transport. If you do not have many classes throughout the week, better choose accomodation in London, even though you'll miss out on student life a little. It's just that you're likely to experience more in the capital than in the village of Egham, Surrey.

It's good to try and make friends in London, and also travel to Scotland - it's a must! If you do not come from Europe, you should try and go on trips to other European countries, it's not far at all to the mainland!

Academic
Course recommendations
They have a large choice of courses and a good library, and a very stressful Mrs Macbeth, who is the Erasmus co-ordinator. The French Department was nice; so was the English Language Centre for International students

Royal Holloway is on a hill overlooking a small village in Surrey. There isn't much to do outside campus, so you have to travel to London, which can be a bit expensive and most of all, inconvenient, because, as has been noted by other people, the last train from London leaves much too early, at around 23.30

Housing
Type of housing: flatshare
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Because I feel that not living on campus caused me to miss out on all the student life and on making friends with other people there.

Personal comments
For me accomodation was too expensive as the grant from the Sorbonne was only minimal. Besides I quite like comfort and I've never lived in a student residence, so I don't know how I would have coped with the communal kitchen/showers. The main building is nice, though, beautiful architecture.
