student housing was for foreigners only, a family connection would have been better for not talking English or French as well, but Russian only

Personal comments
The dormitory was fine. It is managed by the International Office of the RSUH and therefore the housing contract should be fixed in detail in advance. Otherwise it might be possible that any implicit contract will be changed for unknown reason, and one might be confronted with a roommate, even though you have been promised a single room. After midnight you will have to ring for being atmitted. You have to get an allowance to accomodate friends over night.

Why?
Although it is rather expensive, an apartment is the most comfortable type of accomodation in Moscow. I would not advise anyone to live on campus or in a family.

Personal comments
Most of the governmental universities in Moscow offer housing on campus, but it is very unsafe and unpleasant too - dirty, overcrowded, hostile but cheap. Trying to find an apartment is kind of hard, but is worth an effort. Rent of a one-bedroom apartment costs about 300-600 USD a month.

Why?
Because on campus, you are always with foreigners. Then, you have more occasion to practice English and Italian than Russian.

Personal comments
It was great location, near of Metro and of the Centre. Classes were only two minutes walk from my building. A lot of memorable moments and friends.
Cleanliness and space are really good for Russia. I have seen worst...
