There is two different ways of living in Japan when you are a foreigner : you can live as a foreigner (that is to say keep your habits, meet mostly with foreigners...), or try to live as a Japanese or at least with Japanese people. The last way is less easy to do because you need to try to implicate in Japan. However, it is a lot more interesting and rewarding.
I learnt a more going to japan, about people, language, and culture, but also about myself.

If someone wants to go, he or she must be really interested in japanese culture not only in an international experience, especially if that person is western. It is easier to live in Japan if you like the culture and if you are really willing to learn the language.

As students there are a lot of discounts to travel and it is good to ask in order to travel. Japan is very expensive but also very interesting and knowing the advantages that students have makes it easier to have a nice life in Japan.

I would participate in this "Summer Session in Asian Studies" again, but I would then stay in Tokyo for another 1-2 months and teach German or English. Toyko is such a fascinating city that it is worth it to stay at least three months! I would like to go back one day.

The life in Sophia is unique in terms of interaction with international students, various cultures, and the students can get in touch with the OB and OG who work at international organization like UN or those kind of sectors. At that point, Sophia is opened to global and also it has a mind of regarding local as essential thing.
