we enjoyed BLINAYA NOMER 1. for the cheapest and most russian pancakes - dont be put off by the grotty facade, this is a gem for cheap and wholesome russian food!!

We didnt really get any advice or help. The university offered us a place to stay that was 4 times the usual price and not very conducive to people of our age ie: living with an old widow

russian is extremely difficult to just "pick up", it takes time and alot of effort, but we did manage to learn plenty - we could see on our return to scotland that our level had lifted.

There are so many that I suggest you e-mail me. Basic ones would include PATIENCE with any bureaucracy - dont think you can ignore it either!!
TOUGH SKIN in the face of abuse from Russians - on the street, at the market, in uni, on the metro - just stare steely eyed right back at them!
