Almost everything was more expensive (specially food and nightlife/alcohol/smokes).
The only thing I found to be of the same price was clothes shops.
Tip: you can get free boat trips to finland if you register (free) in the company that does them (forgot the name).

Get a local bank account (most foreign students were able to get internet access to their swedish accounts which I found highly discriminatory and shocking inside the E.U. space). So transfer your money through the internet to your local account (it was free from my country) and pay your bills via internet (if you can't do it yourself ask a swedish friend), since you pay a tax if you go to the post office or bank.
If you plan on using the buses/subway a lot, buy the month pass.

Traveller Checks are a thing of the past! All you need to live in stockholm (and travel throughout western and eastern europe) is an american bank account and ATM card. And European ATMs don't charge fees!

if you are not a drinker, or if you don't drink too much, you can save half of the money! if you go to night culbs before 22.00, it's usually free entrance and you can listen to great concerts without spending one krona!

The food was chared. İts was not a unique consumation.
The telephones expenses was due to my first experience abroad, for me and my family. So we compensate by phone.
İn sweden night life you have a kind of 2 payment before having your drinks: The entrance cost + your lobby cost (for your clothes).
Travel: İts an economic opportunity to vizit Norway, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Danemark till İtalia.

Becarefull. Sweden still haves Krones. İn 2002-2003 : My bank charged me a lot of money for all my withdraws.

Virtual impossibility of opening a simple bank account at any Swedish Bank without a Swedish "Personal Number"!! Very inflexible at times in administration towards foreigners!!!
