Academic
Course recommendations
Coming from GW, i felt that the courses were not up to college level. I felt like i was taking a bunch of high school courses again. But it was nice for the sample fact that, it made it easier to experience Madrid and the rest of spain, cause we had a lot of free time.

They only give a midterm and a final exam, and i don't believe that is a good system. There is no way to see how u are progressing through the courses, and half way through the semester is too late to fix problems.

Coming to Spain i could say the basic words, and the fact that i speak French fluently made it a lot easier for me to understand Spainish. But i really thought that after a semester here i would be much fluent. I really believe the reason that did not happen, is the reason that i live with other people that are speaking english and at school everyone speaks english also.

Personal recommendation
I personally think Suffolk is a great place to come if u only want a ONE semester study abroad experience. It's a very lay back atmosphere, and school work is not a huge concern. Although the organization at the university is not the best, you will have a great time traveling and getting to know the other people in the program. I thought the other students were great.

Expenses
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
A private grant
Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work
Personal spending habits
The traveling aspect is more expensive while studying abroad, because u have so many places u want to visit and only one semester in which to do it. So overall i traveled a lot more in one semester here than i would normally do while at home, but it is very worth it.

If you are coming to Suffolk and you go to the Malaga trip before school starts, get ready to spend a lot of money. The reason is that u just get to spain and u are excited about doing everything, and money goes by fast. that was not just my personal view, everyone in the programs says teh same.

I tried doing something different every weekend. I started my party on Thursdays by going to Casa de Cerveza, where you pay 8 euros and you drink as much as u can until 2 AM, then after that i usually go to Cool. On Fridays there is Velvet Lounge, which plays all the latest hip hop, or there is also Kapital which is really good, that plays a variety of everything. On Saturday there is Ministery of Sound. And Sundays there is O'Connells where everyone goes to watch the NFL and have a few drinks.

I live in the Flora Residence. It is located in the perfect area, about 4 blocks from Sol and Grand Via. The facilities here are reasonable, we have a living room with a cable tv and 24 hour access to the internet, which is rare for places in Spain. The rooms are small but good enough.
