The ERASMUS grant is probably about one fifth of the living expenses. It's ridiculous!

Didn't realise how much I had learned until I came home. It was a fantastic opportunity, not inly to learn the language, but also non verbal communication and teh cultural side of things aswell.

I wish I had known...
It's hard to settle in to a new culture, especially in the run up to Christmas, but in the second semester, things will pick up, and that's when the real fun begins!

Personal recommendation
Barcelona is a fantastic place to go, either for students or to work full time. The people are quite friendly, there's lots to do and see, and it also gives you the opportunity to travel around Spain. Make the most of your time by trying new things, travelling at every available opportunity, especially down to Sevilla for Easter!

Make sure you don't get stuck ina rut by going to the same place every week. Explore new pubs, as there's so much to see and do and the year will just fly by!

More of a choice and consideration for international students, as the first choice of many courses was to be taught in Catalan!

Fantastic nightlife in Barcelona! Most of the best places are off the beaten track, so you need to be in the know to find them. Our main hang outs were Discotheque in Poble Esanyol, which becomes an open air nightclub called Terrazza during the summer months. Maremagnum is a bit of a touist trap and teh drinks are expensive, but it is still worth a visit! It is a shopping centre by day, and they play good music, the clubs are mostly free, and you can wander in and out of them all. You'll find little gems of bars, for example dot, the london bar, salsita's, just off the ramblas in the surrounding windy roads.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
It is a chance to meet new people, live like the Spaniards, become more independent, looking after yourself.

The University accommodation was out beside the University, out of the city of Barcelona, so the social side to living out there mainly occurred during the week, as many of the Spanish who lived there went home on the weekends, so it is better to find your own accommodation in the city.
