Telephone was more expensive because it is significantly more expensive to use a cell phone in Spain than it is to use one in the States. Nightlife was slightly more expensive only because I was willing to spend more. If I were on more of a budget, I could have spent less and still had fun.

One cost saving tip would be to take large amounts (at least a few hundred) euro out of the ATM at a time to avoid the international and bank fees (which added up to about $3-7 each transaction). I would suggest that you do this only if you feel comfortable keeping money around in your home and if you won't spend it all at once. Also, check the currency conversion on the internet before doing it. When I was in Spain, the exchange rate fluctuated pretty regularly and some days I could en up with about 10 euro more per 100.

Going out for dinner is here cheaper. You often only pay 1 euro of 1.50 for a beer or a wine. For 10 euro per person you can go out for dinner really good. He housing is also less than in my home country. I rent my room now from an agency and than you pay a little bit more but still about 40 euros cheaper than in my home country. In nightlife clubs you pay the same amount for a cocktail or beer. The daily groceries are here more expensive than in my home country. This is mainly because of the small choice.

Mobile phones were more expensive only because i had to use pre-paid. But if you get vodafone, you can get some pretty good prices. if you join the Q Tal group with your friends, it will cost you 6 cents to call and text everyone in the group. i also came with dollars and the dollar was not doing so well this year. So the exchange rate was unfavoralbe for some things.

If you are coming from the states, to avoid ATM charges open a Citibank account before you come and you can take money out for free. Fees can be as high as $25 per transaction!

I spent more in Sevilla because everyone is always going out. One goes out usually every night and spends money on food, drinks, etc.

Though I spent a lot of money, I did not go over my budget. I would advise to plan a budget and stick to it. Eat at home and then go out so you won`t feel pressed to buy food.

Keep track of your money. Use your ATM to take out money or open a Spanish account. US Dollars go much further than Spanish Pesetas. Don't use travelers checks. Many places don't except them.

I wanted to see other parts of Europe and Africa so my travel expense was a bit greater than that at home.

Stay away from "home food" it is a better cultural experience and cheaper to stave away from imported food establishments. ie. McDonalds, Pans & Co., Pizza Hut, etc...
