Overall, I think my language skills have improved tremendously and I now feel motivated to learn more. Living with native speakers definitely helped as I was forced to speak the language every day. The locals are very friendly and will speak to you in Spanish even if you speak basic Spanish. When I first arrived I knew the basics but had trouble in some situations ie ordering a sandwich, and I sometimes had to play cherades with my flatmates, but by the end I was comfortable in almost any situation and my flatmates could talk to me about anything (politics, social issues, etc) I felt quite isolated linguistically at the beginning, but by the end I felt accepted within the community and I miss them terribly!

I spent the first month listening and saying very little.I was getting to grips with understanding first of all and I was shy at speaking Spanish. I amazed myself how quickly I became fluent. I put it down ot having avery active social life and making good friends among the locals. I spent more time with the locals than other erasmus students aprt from one girl who came from my university. It was nice to have someone if the frustration of not being able to fully express myself in Spanish got to me. We joked about it and it helped me to get on with it. Socialising, parties: that was the best studying I did!

My Spanish improved beyond all my expectations. Difficult local accent at times, but even then, could manage.

It was great, I had no problemas with the language because I had studied Spanish for many years before going to Spain and including I had been aproved on the proficiency examn (DELE)in 1999.
