Bairo Alto is not to be missed. One of the oldest neighborhoods in Lisbon and full of great bars, restaurants and nightclubs. In the Santa Apalonia district which is the eastern part of the city there are all kinds of nightclubs popping up. One must take a day trip to Sintra which is like fairy tale land and out to Guincho for a full view of the ocean. The state of the Alentejo is a must see.. Evora is beautiful, the beaches are breathtaking and pristine, and the cuisine is out of this world. Also, anyone and everyone must go once to Belem for the Pasteis de Belem.

The university definitely was not as user friendly as an american university, however, it is a different country and different place and to attend school in a city like Lisbon, well... some things can be overlooked.

Portugal is inexpensive. It is still sort of an unspoiled country in the tourist department. It isn't a huge destination. Food is inexpensive. Beer is cheap and delicious. People are friendly and the public transportation is user friendly and inexpensive as well.
I had studied abroad before. I think that it is important for all students to approach the experience with an open mind and the attitude that they are going to have fun this year. If they want to learn or improve their language skills it is important to befriend country nationals rather than other students of their same nationality.

I don't recommend it unless you are interested in learning the Portuguese language and have a good handle on the language.

Portugal is a wonderful place to visit and live. Very relaxing way of life and great things to see and do. Getting to Lisbon is simple and there are a number of train stations with departures to multiple locations in Europe. Well worth a visit or extended stay.
