It was a bit dificult at first, but I lernt portuguese by assisting to an intensive portuguese course for foreigners. But I was all day long in my laboratory, working alone the most of the time, and I couldn´t improve the languaje.

in my home university we took our cources in english unfortunetly before going to porto we didnt take any course in portuguese.When i started to study in porto;with language cources and in the social lifé; i could learn it..it s really important for learning a language in own country

it's not very easy to get into the portuguese language. but it's worth doing it! people in the north of portugal are very friendly, so its nice to speak with them in their language. the most important: to know portuguese opens you the door to brasil!

The courses were held in English, but in the beginning we had to chose one course in portugueses even if i didn't know the language well. The teachers were kindly to help us and we had no problems at the end of the programme.

The social side is fundamental to improving your language skills. Don't spend your whole time with the foreign student crowd or you'll learn nothing!
