Absorb everything sit back and look closely at what you have accomplished, try your hardest to intake everything and everyone who passes through your life. Though sometimes things can get rough remember eventually things will get better and tomorrow you will be a little bit stronger then yesterday.

Things aren't similiar to the UK, even though you think there's be certain uniform standards because of the EU. Italy is not a nanny-state like the UK is, everything is down to you, the individual. Your victory - your praise. Your mistake - your fault.

The University is a shambles really, diferent faculties have different standards of what theye expect from Erasmus students, the exam process is a joke and wildly unfair. But Florence as a host city is absolutely fantastic.

Come well prepared financially, try and save a little, it does end up being pricey (rent being the main source of drainage!), use the internet at Uni, it'll save you so much money from net cafes. Go out and socialise, it's the only way to meet Italians and improve your language, it worked for me, it'll work for you!

The first and more important thing is to go to San Marco's office to get the official papers and to the police to get your visa. After that you should go to your studies center then go to the "mensa" (where you'll eat), the one in San Gallo to get your student identity card.

The classes are DIFFICULT and very different from the American University style. But, if you are aware of that before you go, you will have a great expereince.

If you are looking for the best cultural experience, it's best not to become part of the American scene in Florence. (It is very large). Speak Italian! Make Italian friends! Don't spend your time travelling like the other Americans do. Spend time discovering what Florence really is and why you are there.
