Housing
Type of housing: A room in a 'Wohngemeinschaft'(WG).
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: WG
Why?
A 'WG', which is the normal thing in Germany, is a good thing to get to know people. Mine was a private WG (not in a home from the university), so I got to know Germans and not just other Erasmus-students.

Normally you can get a (quite cheap) room in a home from the university. Some are cool, others are really primitive. Most of them are quite far from the city center. I'm happy I looked for a room on my own (it was a bit more expensive, but the location was perfect).

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: A room exchange
Why?
Didn't get to see how germans live, no proper integration. You need to live with foreigners to understand their way of life.

Rubbish!!! Don't depend on anything provided by Studentenwerk. No chance of getting something. Try to organise exchange with germans leaving uni to go on exchange so you can just take over each others rooms. Means less hassle for moving your stuff and you have a bed when you return.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
If I could find a room/apartment near campus, which is very hard in Köln, I would prefer that, because even though the location of on campus housing is pretty good, I just wish I had had better flatmates. Mine were terrible.

The facilities are incredible, just be warned that you may not live with people you're fond of.

Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I lived close to the university and the other students, but at the same time I had an appartment to myself and thus privacy. Stores and transportation, that is bus and U-bahn, were 1 minumte away!

It's very hard to find accomodation in Cologne, so the help from university was super. Cologne is a pretty big city, so they really tried to find you a good location as well. I was really satisfied!
