In Spain , I´m studying in a big city (far from home) and there the housing is much more expensive and there are no helps of the Government. Trains in France are cheaper and there are lots of discounts.Nightlife in Spain is very cheap, in France a beer costs 5 euros!!and you have to pay to enter in the discos.Telephone calls are expensive, specially to mobile phones where you have to pay the minimun fee even if nobody picks up the phone

Housing in a university hall is really cheap, especially with the help from the CAF (that everyone can get): I paid 100 euros/month ! Trains are not so expensive either, especially when you have a reduction ticket called "carte 12-25". Enjoy your time travelling, which means you will be spending more than at home, but it's such a beautiful country. Drinks in bars and clubs are really expensive in France.

Opening a bank account is not a bad idea, especially if you envisage returning one day.

Housing was cheaper anyway and CAF made it better. Euro-pound exchange rate is a help.

The accommodation is so cheap! Apply for the CAF as with it I paid just €100 per month! I pay around €500 per month in the UK for similar accommodation. Most things are cheaper in France than in the UK...

One warning about Sanitas - you can't get an internet connection in your room. You can in Europa, but you have to go to France Telecom to set it up yourself. Apply for the CAF - you save around 1/3 of your rent. Look for formules at restaurants. They're the best way to get a two or three course meal.

DO NOT GO OVER YOUR LIMIT IF HAVING A BANK ACCOUNT WITHOUT MAKING SURE THAT THE BANK WILL NOT CHARGE YOU EACH TIME YOU TAKE MONEY OVERDRAFT. IT CAN BE VERY COSTLY, MAKE SURE THEY SECURE A LIMIT FOR YOU AND THEY LET YOU KNOW WHEN YOU HAVE NO MONEY IN THE SAVINGS ACCOUNT.
