I wish I had known...

Venetians have to cope with millions of tourists every year, so it is really hard to get to know one

Be sure you want to stay at Venice, choose the time of your stay carefully (eg. summer is incredibly hot and humind and full of tourists). Teachers try to make up for missing resources, try to do projects that do not depend much on extensive research

Final comments

Some people like Venice for a day or two, otherwise the completely different way of life (without cars etc.) seems to complicated etc. If you like hiking, the Belluno Dolomites are only one hour away. Another way of saving a little bit of money is by doing your shopping at Panorama/Auchan. Free buses leave at the Piazzale Roma

Especially for my field of studies, American Literature, resources were hard ly available. Access to libraries and Internet is stricly limited in time.

Exchange between faculties seems rather rare as all faculties are in different locations. Same applies for libraries, so that interdisciplinary work becomes rather difficult

During my stay the accomodation for foreign students was not planned for and my initial stay at a casa dello studente was not usual for other exchange students. If one should have the chance to get a room there, be aware that in Venice the shared rooms are especially small.
