You need to speak italian, even if you don't know much is the best choice out of a language that you can make. People are helpful in Italy. English don't buy much at the University,though.

I had an intensive language course in the beginning of the year and after two months I was already speaking the essential. After one year I was speaking fluent Italian

Beeing spanish had make quite easy for me learning italian without effort. Tha was one of the main reasons to came here.

As my parents are originary from Italy I was able to speak italian before. I went to Rome to get the last touch in slang and diction.
