Personal comments
I recommend to invest the money in going to Zurich. St. Gallen has a few descent nightspots, but the locals keep to themselves. The University will arrange some descent parties each semester.

The University is excellent as far as academics go. Hoever, they could invest some more in building a campus feeling. There are very few places for student to hang out after school for coffee, beers etc.

Final comments
You might want to buy a Halb-Tax Abo for trains in Switzerland. It enables you to travel for half the price. If you choose to travel a lot, it is worth the investment.
