Though classes helped to some extent, I cannot honestly say that that is where I learned French. I learned it in people's homes, in the streets, in cafes, copiously reading news and books, and oh yes watching TV.

The first half of the year I amde the mistake of spemnding too much time with other Americans. It really is very important to make the effort and get to know otehr international students and the locals. It really does change what it will mean for you to study abroad in France.

Housing
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why?
Liviong with a family, allowed be have an insider's view on French family life. surely, I only was able to see a small speck of what it is like to be part of a Frecnh family, but nonetheless this experience was priceless, and I will remember it forever. As well, living with a family helps a lot to learn a language.

Near the opear house there are several bars, but most of them are for a younger crowd. If you are looking for a place to have a conversation, there are much better bars in Vieux Lyon. As well, the bar the monacle is not bad. There are few jazz clubs as well that on ocassion have pretty decent jazz. Thre best that I was able to fond was the hot spot, but there could be others. Lyon is a town that you really have to look for places to have a good time.
