Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
It's a lot more calm and cleaner, although it's not as close as an on-campus accomodation. But an appartment is a place on your own where you do not need to share shower/toilets/kitchen with 30 other people (who don't care about cleanliness that much). And - on campus, life was not that exciting, it was rather depressing sometimes, especially on weekends when there was no one around. And on days with bus strike.

There are 6 dorms, the largest one can take about 1000 students. The whole campus dates back to the 70ies, including the dorms. Therefore, the buildings aren't really up to date. Right now, things are about to improve, but it could be a lot better (compared to student dorms in Austria!). Each student has a room on his/her own of about 10m² with a sink. Toilets and showers are in each hallway. The kitchens are small and not communicative at all. They are small and on one end of the floor. There is neither telephone on the floor or in the rooms, nor Internet. It can be quite nice if you buy lots of nice stuff to decorate the room, or if you don't spend too much time in there :) There is one big common room used for parties, shows, film screenings; there are also several study rooms and TV rooms. There are also washing machines (sometimes, not in all of them). The only REALLY good thing about the dorm is that it is very cheap! For one year it's no problem at all to live there; but I couldn't imagine living there throughout my studies (as lots of foreign students have to do because they cannot afford it! there are hardly any French students living in the dorms) Some of the dorms started useful workshops and interesting projects (skiing trip, international cuisine, library, computer room, theatre, magazine, video club, etc.).

I am usnure jow safe the campus is at night. The university campus is approximately 40 minutes away from the city centre by bus and I would rather live nearer to the city centre and commute to university each day for lectures.

Right in the middle of town is brilliant, because everything you need is accessible by tram.

If you aaply for halls, get the form in by the end of May, and if youère looking for somewhere in town, come out at the beginning of the summer.

Accommodation at the university in BX III is alright, it is easy to meet other students, not too expensive, but too far away from the city center (7 km)

I enjoyed having my own apartment. Some times it's nice to live with other people but I prefer living on my own.

Finding housing was very difficult and little help or advice was offered from the university itself. In addition it was difficult to get in contact with the landlords to get things fixed. This was frustrating.
