Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
An apartment offers one the freedom to live on their own, and in accordance with their own desires. Also, they are generally better located than university housing.

Personal comments
My flat was spacious, but quite old and obviously run down. The landlady, however, was simpathetic and allowed me to repair the walls in my bedroom and to paint them. The flat was located ideally in a quiet neighborhood near the center.

As far as the best clubs go, Aix only has a few to offer, and the best of those would be le Mistral. For an afterhours bar, Le Bistro Aixois is the winner. Cafes: Any of those in la place Richalm near the post office are great, as are those in the Place d´hotel de ville. They are generally cheaper than those along the Cours Mirabeau.

I wish I had known...
I wish that I had known that none of these courses would help me towards my degree in Engineering or my degree in Geology and Geophysics.

Aix is more than the university, it is the entire town, and most of what you will learn will not be from the classroom.

Course recommendations
Coming from an American university, I took the resources available to me for granted. Computing facilities in Aix do not even compare to those at my home university, but you just learn to make do with what´s available.

Some of the professors do not make themselves readily accessible outside of the classroom, that makes it difficult to have your questions answered.

In the country in general, I sometimes had difficulties with some of the slang, but as I continued to go out with the same people I learned the majority of it, and was not afraid to ask when I didn´t understand something. I had a harder time in my courses asking questions, but understood more of the lecture because the professor would repeat everything two or three times. It happened that sometimes even the French students around me would miss somethings as a couple of the professors were from Africa with very strong accents.
