Personal spending habits
Food was less because it tends to be slightly (but not much) cheaper in France; my phone expenses were less because I had an internet connection in my room. Beware of the prices of drinks in bars though! Spent more on travel because there were loads of things to see, generally.

Personal comments
I'd recommend getting the complementary health insurance to save on doctor's bills; I'd also recommend the 'abonnement' for the local buses and trams.

Academic
Course recommendations
The Alsatian course that I took, although not as formally structured as I had expected, is very interesting (IMO) and teaches you a bit about Alsace at the same time. Would also recommend the linguistics courses.

I wish it was more structured - a lot of things seemed a bit disorganised to me.

Final comments
BTW - the comments from a while ago mention the "batiment A", which was where Erasmus students used to be placed. It's worth noting that this was demolished a few years ago and "batiment C" is where we tend to get put now (it's not too bad, but sometimes a bit noisy). Also the transport has improved due to a new-ish tram system being installed that links the campus with the city centre in 10 minutes. In general it's pretty good nowadays... and don't forget to try the tarte flambée!

Speaking in French all the time might seem difficult at first, even if you're a French-language student like me, but it gets far easier as the year progresses!

Personal comments
The building where I was placed, Batiment C, is very inexpensive (about €140 / mth, and less if you have help from the CAF), but there are only about 3 toilets and 1 kitchen for every 40 rooms, which isn't ideal. Still, all rooms have internet access, which proved very useful.

The Shamrock bar was a common meeting-up place for Erasmus students and has a good party atmosphere at night. Zen is also quite cool, being a few tram stops away from the campus. Travel opportunities are very good in Mulhouse - you can get to Basel in 20 minutes with the TER and there are quick links to Strasbourg, Besancon and also Paris. This can prove useful on Sundays when hardly anything happens in Mulhouse itself!
