Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Because I liked the independence. I liked that if I went away from home, not to have a cleaning and cooking lady to do things for me. I learned to live without my parents and that included all the luxury of having people doing things for me. I learned to go grocery shopping every monday afternoon. I learned to cook, to wash clothes, to do my bed everyday, to clean my own room and bathroom, etc. Things that at home I have people to do them for me. I learned to make my own rules and respect them by being responsible, etc. I would defenitely choose to rent an apartment and live there with a friend/s like I did that semester that I went to study abroad.

I didn´t really know if they offered any, I really didn´t ask. My friend and I just started directly searching for an apartment to rent.

Academic
Course recommendations
The thing is that the method of evaluation is very diffrent from my home country. In Spain they don´t have tests, homework, projects, essays, presentations throught out the semester course. They just have one closed multiple choice final exam and depending in what you get in the test is what your grade is. I personally dont think the a single closed test can evaluate everything you learned through out the course.

I would suggest that there should be homework, projects, presentations, tests through out the course that evaluate in different percentages what we learn, instead of only one single closed exam at the end.

It was ok. I took four courses and only in one course a teacher refused to speak spanish. He spoke catalán. He said that if I was coming to Catalunya, I should adapt to them, not them to us. Which I truly respected his opinion, but the course said it was going to be given in Spanish. It was not so bad because there were four teachers for the course, and only one of them told me that. So that incident only lasted for two weeks. The rest was given in Spanish.

I wish I had known...
That it was not that easy to make friends in the University. Almost everyone were just girls at the psychology faculty, and they had already their group of friends or had a boyfriend and they lived in the outsides of the city. So it wasn´t like I went out with them at night or something.

Personal recommendation
The psychology faculty should have like more erasmus gatherings, and should make reunions where locals can meet international students.

To travel check out ryanair.com, easyjet.com, basiqair.com, you´ll find REALLY cheap flights. If it is possible, go a few days before to Barcelona, stay at a hostel and find the apartment to rent, it will be more cheaper than if you get it over the internet. Try interacting more with local people, international students have to put a little more effort, but it can be possible. If you have an oportunity to go study abroad, or travel. DO IT!!! It´s the BEST learning experience in ALL ASPECTS EVER!!!

I think prices are more reasonable in Spain. Things are cheaper, but due to the fact that the Euro compared to the Mexican peso is a lot more, that´s what made it sometimes more expensive in some things. Although for example airplane tickets are much more cheaper in Europe using some airlines than in Mexico by far.

The University!!! Education is much more expensive in México. I saved A LOT of money when I went to pay the courses for the semester. I was really surprised! Also I LOVED the transportation system in Barcelona. I didn´t miss my car at all, because the transportation is so well distributed and managed that I got from place to place with minima effort.
