Housing
Type of housing: corridor room
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: corridor room
Why?
It is a great advantage to live together with other students. You emeditly have a social network through the common situation. I met a lot of new friends through my year in a student accomodation. Highly recommendable.

The housing at the UvA is in particular arranged for Master students. Most of them get a prety nice (and expensive) room. But there also are less nice and equally expensive accomodations, but in the end, the quality of the housing depends on the people you live with. In general I can say that most of the students were happy to have a place to stay at all and some places are really well located.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I like living with other people, but I don't think I could stand having rules or a fixed timetable as in a campus

In four months I changed house three times, but my dutch friends told me this is quite normal in A'dam. Anyway, I really liked my last two houses. Both of them were student houses, in the centre. They were quite expensive, but rooms were big and cleaning charges were included. But what I liked the best was definitely the experience of sharing a flat with students from all over the world. I really learned a lot from that.

i got lucky to be in a drom divided in appartements of four people, which is nicer to live in than just a room-or a shared room- with the facilities at the end of the hall. I have a living room, so I can juts hang around there, or have some private time in my personal room. It is a good solution for me. The main problem was the relations with my roomates which were not always easy. I thought it could have been cheaper but housing in Amsterdam is one tricky issue. Overall, I am pretty satisfied, I could have found much worse.

Before I came to the Netherlands the University did NOT arrange anything for me. It is VERY HARD to find a place by yourself here (the Dutch wait for rooms for even 2 years on waiting lists)!!! But I was VERY LUCKU - I won the right to rent my room at a room lottery organized by the UvA. And some other people got their places arranged by the coordinators - so in the end it was not THAT bad - but I had been very worried that I wouldn't find anything!

The housing provided was good but would have been better with an existence of a common place with facilities(T.V or Games) where students could meet each other and know their neighbours e.g a common room or a game/sport court.

Because it allows you to have much more freedom. Furthermore it gives more time to study. Also it is the best way to make sure, that you integrate well with the population of the country

Some student accomodations are good, others are so bad, that is it better to find something on your own. I had a room assigned, but it was so dirty, far away from the center and expensive, that I chose to find my own appartment.

REVIEWS BY INTERNS AT Universiteit van Amsterdam
Structured but quite superficial
Really good structure in terms of what you have to do and how to do it. private banking itself was ultimately not my thing so the tasks weren't very challenging or inspiring to me. there was good encouragement and oppertunities to explore in other sectors in the bank which was very good. quite repetitive administrative work.
ABOUT
In 1632 the Athenaeum Illustre was founded in Amsterdam to educate students in Trade and Philosophy. As the establishment was not a proper university yet, lessons were generally given at the professors' homes. Until the nineteenth small institution with no more than 1877, the situation changed when the Athenaeum Illustre became the Universiteit van Amsterdam and was permitted to confer the highest educational degrees.
