In the beginning I had some troubles with understanding, but in the end, that was not a problem at all. It is not a shame if you have to ask several times if you don't understand something. They know it is not your first language and they are willing to help you!

at the beginning I had to concentrate a lot to understand what people said. But in the course of time you learn also slang phrases when talking to Canadians.

Of course like everyone I had problems in cominication with local and international people, because of different accents, but I get used to after a while

Some profs are really hard to understand at the beginning, but it's definitely getting better over time.

I think my knowledge in English was pretty good before the exchange year as I was used to having lectures in English at my home university as well. I think I improved most at conversational skills, coping better slang etc. after the year.
