Everyone on campus can speak english so it was not so difficult to communicate with others. Also there are a wide number of foreign students on campus. Some people in the City spoke only their native tounge and poor english but with gestures then it is quite simple to figure out what they are trying to say. There is always someone willing to help.

Personal spending habits
I dindīt really spend a lot of my incomeon the telephone. THe nightlife is generally chaeper and besides you benefit from student discounts and because youīre young there are always new people to meet who will offer you a drink. I dindīt travel much, maybe just to go away for a weekend otherwise most of my time was spent around the City.

I wish I had known...
A little more about the history of South Africa. I only knew the basics and sometimes you met people that were extremely hostile and I could not understand that except blame it on their past experiences.

Itīs a very good university with high standards and you are always so well-informed which means they spoil you and you will get a shock when you move to another place where information does not flow readily.

Final comments
Itīs easy to get sucked into the whole holiday atmosphere that surrounds Cape Town so you have to keep focused, but on the other hand not be a stuck in the mud. So time management is important in such an environment and of course stay clear of all the dangerous areas, donīt use public transport especially trains late at night.

I think the system was good because then you were always aware of your weakest points. Being given the chance to write an exam also gives one the opportunity to prove oneself especially if you have been working in groups throughout.

THe junior residence were not the best but they were well situated and were protected so much it felt like home. The senior residence were spacious and gave a sense of independece. They were also situated so you had access to necessary facilities for your studies and entertianment at all times.

The Waterfront is a good place to spend your time on summer afternoons, you can shop around and watch movies but the cafes are too expensive. There are nice cafes in the area between Green Point and Sea Point. The best way to spend your time is to drive out along the coast to places such as Hout Bay or Muizenberg. You have to have access to a car to enjoy Cape Town because most exciting places are far from the campus. The area around the campus was entertaining though. The are between Woodstock and Plumstead is mostly inhabited by students
