Do not hesitate in buying a bike or a car at arrival
Enjoy sports activities
I would recommand not to live alone but in international students residence (La Mancha if 1 year) or shared appartments and houses off campus

You can come from Orlando : 2hrs by car, Tampa 2hrs by car. I don't recommend to come from Miami because the Greyhound buses are quite slow and it's 5 hours far. You can land directly in Gainesville without problem. Prepare or a first night at the hotel if you don't know anybody there because air companies may be very late on their schedule, like 8hrs for me...

Living in Gainesville in terms of housing, food, nightlife and other related expenses is extremely cheap compared to Europe. The good exchange rate between euros and dollars also helped a lot.

Course recommendations
Courses at graduate level at the college of engineering are pretty good. Professors are well prepared and interact a lot with students. However sometimes lectures are a bit too slow.
