Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
The location was very convenient and the rooms are nice. The communal areas were what needed improvement. And the location makes it easy to meet other students.

Personal social experience
Personal comments
There is always a nightclub with a student night every night of the week. I enjoyed Waterfront, but there are plenty to chose from. And the location of the university is perfect for traveling Europe-airport nearby, train/coach station and ferry dock in the city.

Academic
Course recommendations
The main thing that I did not like about the academic evaluation was that nearly all of the exams took place at the very end of the semester, and one exam determined the whole mark for a class.

Overall
I wish I had known...
Be prepared for a lack of organisation, particularly during registration. It can be frustrating at times, particularly if you come from a big university and are used to things being processed quickly.

In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
I would reccommend it more for it's location than the actual university, but beware of the lack of organisation.

Take advantage of the InterRail passes while you are living in Europe. You can't get them outside of Europe and they are great for seeing a lot of places all at once.

Expenses
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
none
Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work
Personal spending habits
Telephone charges were more expensive not because I called home often, but because they charge you local calls and supposedly "toll-free" calls. And travel is more expensive because so many different countries and cultures are so close by.

I was very surprised at how expensive it was to transfer money internationally from bank to bank. I would suggest putting whatever money you need into an account that is accessible by ATM, then take the cash out and deposit it into a British account that way.

The Yorkshire accent is a bit harsh and difficult to understand at first, but you get used to it fairly quickly.
