The exchange rate between Pund Sterling and Deutsche Mark was pretty bad during the time I spent in the UK. Overall the British price standard is mor or less the same as in Germany, only that sth that costs 1 DM cost 1 Pound in the UK, which makes about 3DM because of the exchange rate. Apart from that the South of England is especially expensive because of its vicinity to London and continental Europe.

London is very near, you should use that.
I went to Cornwall and Scotland from there and had great fun!
Try to get a private insurance that insures you in a foreign country. The NHS treatment at the medical centre is a joke. Better go somewhere private.

Estudios
Recomendaciones de cursos
I did a Diploma in European Culutres&Languages. So I had one linguistics course (as mentioned in the selections before), a literature, a teaching and a translation course. The courses itself were very basic. If you wnated some depth you did more research for your essays (linguistics). Literature was good. Teaching disappointing in terms of theoretical and didactical knowledge. Translation wasnot appropriate (E-G too easy, G-E too difficult). Better not choose linguistics. Literature courses are usually said to keep high standards and to challenge students

If they offer courses that are focused on international students (as mentioned in their undergraduate prospectus), they should raise the standard to those students level a bit more.

On campus there's only the Lighthouse and the Venue. During the day Mungoe's is nice for a coffe. For proper lunch or dinner Origins is very nice. Downtown I liked Simple Simon's and the Bishopsfinger (near Westgate), Wetherspoon's are always good for cheap but good dinner in a pub. Oh, and we recently got a Starbucks-staff is not too experienced yet and when they prepare you sth wrong you get an extra free drink.

Comentario personal
There are new and old houses in Parkwood at UKC. The old houses need renovation and are too expensive for what they can offer.
Disciplinary problems are very common. Unfortunately the university states to follow strict rules such as keeping noise levels down, etc but commonly does not take measures against students who offend those rules when those students pay overseas fees, that is when they bring in a lot of money. I personally do not think that this is appropriate in cases where housemates are being threatened by such students.
My marks for my accomodation are relatively high despite this because I was able to change my accomodation after the first six weeks.
