Dont expect the best educational experience and strong test of knowledge. Most students in my department were more focused and sometimes overly focused on drinking and going out, rather than the topics at hand. The students are fun and friendly, but education takes the back burner to having fun.

It was the best experience I've had and I learned a lot both about the UK and United States. Sometimes the best way to learn about your home is to leave it for awhile. For Americans, I think it is especially important to see how others view the US and its citizens. Americans must be prepared for HEAVY criticism on multiple topics and characteristics/stereotypes of Americans. It can be difficult and one needs a lot of confidence and self-esteem to endure some of the ridicule that certain foreign citizens have of the States.

Leeds has solid acadamics and a great nightlife. While the city doesn't have a great wealth of historical interest (such as York, London) it is a great city for young people. It was also nice to be in a city not overrun with tourists. If you love to go clubbing and shopping you will especially love Leeds. I was limited my major and language experinces as to which schools I could attend. If I had the option to do it again I would have enjoyed to study in Ireland or Scotland.

Enjoy your time abroad. If you approach it with an open mind it will be a life changing experince. If you go over and compare everything to your home country, you will not have a good time. Just remember the way you do it at home, isn't the only way to do it.

I highly recommend School of English at Leeds University to everyone. Leeds is a very relaxed city and a place where it is easy to feel like home. I advise everyone to try living with English students as this might be the best chance to get to know them. It is also very important to get to know the other students in your modules as soon as possible, the best way is simply to talk to someone on the first day. Getting to know the other international students is much easier, it is too easy to just hang around with them all the time. Enjoy your studies in Leeds!

Their international office is a great support. Maybe the accomodation office could consider the preferences of the students more or if that's not possible just shorten the preference-list! Another comment is that I think a broad education is good and maybe they should force students to take a few courses outside their departement!

The three architecture courses we had to take were well worth it! Allow either a Friday or Monday off to allow students to travel more.

My study in Leeds was not necessarily to experience academia, it was more to experience the culture. It was well worth it! Purchase Euro-rail passes prior to leaving the U.S. If flying within the UK/Europe, purchase tickets over there and not in the U.S. Some Cities/Areas worth seeing in England: London, Bath, Trent on Stoke (for pottery shopping), Lake District (beautiful)

I loved Leeds Uni. The place is huge, and there is so much to see and do in Leeds. The Univeristy also has tons of fun and interesting classes, but the student body is pretty tight.

TRAVEL> The UK is close to everything. Go for St. Patrick's Day in Ireland, see some sheep in Wales, watch a bag piper in Scotland. Travel with a friend or two or alone, just get out there. SCHOOL> beware that it is work, especially in the math and sciences. PEOPLE> Everyone over there is a peach. Totally nice and totally helpful!
