Housing
Type of housing: Shared house
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Shared house/flat
Why?
It is useful to share a house, because you get to know some people right from the start, which is very nice for doing things together and going out in a city, where you don't know anyone.

Personal comments
We had to find accomodation within two days. That was very stressfull, but I think in the end everyone can manage, because help is provided by the university. I found the average rent rather expensive, even though I was living in a not especially safe area. But it was alright, because there were a lot of other european students living close by, which was good for getting to know people and sharing taxi.

There are so many places to go in Liverpool! You can go out and have a great night out the whole week through. I personally liked the Magnet for dancing a lot. Generally the majority of places are for having a loud night out, with dancing, drinking, socialising. The more quiet places for just sitting down and having a chat are harder to find in the evenings.

I wish I had known...
Liverpool is a city that is expieriencing social tension to a significant degree, which is a fact that I did not fully realised before I went. That makes a more reasonable lifestyle nescessary

Personal comments
My language improved in fluency and listening/reading understanding. In generall, I can say that the major improvement is a certain security in communication. But I definitly regret to have had far to few social contact with native speakers and speaking mainly with other Europeans.

Personal spending habits
Because almost everything was more expensive plus a not so good exchange rate. In addition I still wanted to see and expierience some of Liverpool/Britian, rather than sit at home and save money all the time.

Someone told me, that the Deutsche Bank is working together with Barclays, so that it is possible to withdraw money from your German account without paying for it.
