Personal spending habits
the life cost in the UK is higher than in france, so having the same amount of money for a month than i usually have in France i had to be carefull. anyway i am use to be carefull with the money i get now, so i knew were to spend and were not to spend (for example the travel, by train is very very expensive in the UK, cigarettes and alcohol are over taxed)

it is necessary to have a british bank account (which is difficult, butthanks to my workplacement i also had an advantage) otherwise the banking fees taking money from a french bank account to aa british cash dispenser is very expensive

Academic
Course recommendations
IFI chose the first semester courses for us. first year, and second year were mixed. In the second semestre i decided the first year courses were too easy so i only followed second year courses. Marketing communication was very interesting and the lecturer knew how to motivate his fellow students

in my opinion, as a french student studying at IFI, i really felt the difference between the french private business school and the british university business schools. the exams and assignment are so easy (Multiple Choice Questions and little 3000 words essays). I think the french level is higher than the british one. but i don't think it had anything to do with sunderland university, the lecturer were fine, nice people ready to help at any time, lectures interesting etc.

the advantage i had compared to other international students in sunderland is that i already spend two months in workplacement in Thetford (Cambridge/Norwich) UK were i couldn't speak a work of french, i had to use professional and technical vocabulary which made me learn faster. so i was very comfortable with my english when i came to sunderland, but i still improved it

The place called clanny house was a huge hall of residence. It was a safe place, with security gards, laundry, next to a supermarket, next to the metro station etc. It was really well located for innternational students, all the services needed for the everyday life were available in 5min walk. The apppartements were situated in a Flat shared between seven people (british as well as international), two bathrooms, three toilets, a kitchen, phone, electricity meter etc. It has been design to obliged the students to live together and make contact which is in my opinion the best way to get social.

the beach is the club were all the internatioanl students meet. it is small and the music is various. it is a very nice place for thursday nights (1£ entry). Otherwise, Manor Quay is much bigger but not as social for international, it's even hard to chat to someone. But good fun for the week end. Never go to the Q club
