You must travel through the Scandinavian countries and visit Russia. You should take a very warm jacket and good snow boots. Try skiing and don´t forget to go to the sauna (and after take bath in a frozen lake).

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
I would choose campus again because I was always around other students and my friends and we formed a pleasant community. This is how we could communicate better and get to know each other closer.

Although I had the cheapest accommodation available, it was suitable in all aspects. I was a bit cold during the winter (you know Finland) but it was due to a bad insulation. Apparently I was just unlucky because the others didn't complain. Other than that everything was perfect. If I needed help, I could just go downstairs to my classmates or we could have students' sessions in the evenings because we were living next to each other. So the close distance to people was the biggest advantage no matter the time of commuting to school (20 minutes by bus)

Studying in University of Tampere
Antti P
Hungary, Undergraduate
Translation/Interpretation, 2019
Overall
The University of Tampere offers many interesting courses, also from guest lecturers. Unfortunately the Finnish state has chosen to cut the funding of public education for many years and the choices for courses have reduced, for example in different languages for beginners. In previous years one could study Polish, Japanese, Arabic and probably also other interesting languages for the beginner's level, but not anymore. The Faculty of French (for more advanced speakers) is closing in a few years, which I find very unfortunate. But there are still many courses being offered in Spanish (for more advanced speakers), but who knows for how long.
The two universities of Tampere merged starting from beginning of the year 2019. Thus the University of Tampere and the Tampere University of Technology are one organization called Tampere University. This new organization is also the major shareholder of the Vocational school of Tampere (=Tampere University of Applied Sciences), hence creating a totally new operational model in Finland. Although the PR campaign of the business oriented people praises these new changes, many believe that the project is doomed to fail in more than one way. The consultant-class have managed to get their project through, but will this project be a long-lived try or will it fail sooner than people might think? Only time will tell.

Pros
Mostly very skilled staff,  the university teachers are not too tough on students, casual atmosphere between students and teachers.
Cons
Making friends of Finnish people might be more difficult than one thinks, so loneliness and lacking sense of community between students could provide huge difficulties.

High  quality education with a breathing environment
HH Y
Finland, Undergraduate
, 2025
Overall
The school is of a high stantard. It is not the most modern school there is but it has a low-stress quality to it which is good for studies. This includes the casual vibe of the other students as well as moderate sized class sizes. The city is beautiful and connections are excellent.

Academic
Course recommendations
Course are often run in as intensive two or three hour classes over two or three weeks culminating in a tesst of some kind. This was quite a change for me. However this system allowed me to plan travelling between blocks of class. You must sign up for classes, find a noticeboard relevant to your courses and watch it for announcement of courses.

Interaction with international students
Interaction with local students
Personal comments
Some courses were quite relaxed and while this fostered debate and participation in the class room, there was often a lack of discipline. Lecturers were often VERY difficult to meet with outside class times. Office hours for meeting students were regularly flouted.
