My major was finnish and after that year I could already manage very well in it. The finnish people I could talk with were helpful and very nice. The lecturer in finnish language didn't want to talk in english even if we sometimes didn't understand and it is the best way to be motivated to learn.

At that time in 1997_1998 there was the student union house in the center YO Talo. then a few discos like Night Train. Cafes like Café Europa where international students liked going to. Public saunas too by the lakes.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
A flat where you can share rooms with people coming from other countries or from the host country is the best way to adapt yourself to new situations, get to know people's differences of culture and accept them. So that is why I would have chosen the same kind of accomodation.

The accomodation was a few kilometers from the university of Tampere and you needed to take the bus. It was peaceful and well situated.
