I changed my lifestyle somewhat when I came to Austin. Due to the relatively short stay we wanted to get the most out of everything and that comes with a cost. Accomodation however was due to higher average costs.

If you rent furniture - locate the Aaron Rents outlet where they have used furniture. Will cut you costs substantially - at least 50%. Also, be careful about what services you ask for fromt the telephone companies. They try to make you think that you need all kinds of expensive services when what you really need is only a line.

Although I bought used textbooks at the University Co-op Bookstore, they were still VERY expensive. If short in money, I would recommend searching out other bookstores (amazon?) and using the libraries more. Oftentimes, several books in the syllabus are only used for one or two chapters.

Travelling is much cheaper within the US (by plane) than within Europe, but it's getting cheaper in Europe.

United States and Mexico are very diferent economically, so it was obvious to spend more money than home because of the economical situation in both countries.

at home i don't pay a rent, food is cheap, and nightlife is much more expensive. Talk more on the phone, though cheaper. and don't travel that much!
