Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
when you live in your own apartment you start seeing things in a different way. A new country and the responsabilities that came with your independency really makes a change in your perspective of life.

UTB has not count with dorms. It is a little bit difficult to find a place to live if you do not know anyone in the city. Although as soon as you find a place to live you can enjoy the city and the friendly people.

Housing
Type of housing: Co-operative housing project ("Coop")
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: The same - in my coop!
Why?
Living in a coop is the best opportunity to get to know a lot of nice, local people as well as international students; it feels like a really nice community; you can always meet people if you choose to, or stay on your own; it is comparatively cheap and food is included; you have to work (all the services, like cooking, cleaning etc., are provided by the members i.e. inhabitants), but I cooked and it was fun!

I think living in a coop is the best choice in Austin - it is MUCH cheaper than living in a dorm (dorms are crappy..), and not as lonely as living in an apartment can sometimes be. In addition, the location was great (next to campus).

You have a lot of choices. Since I lived off campus the school has no responsibility so I will not hold them accountable. Hence, since I did not live "at this university" this comment is maybe not that important. A general comment: Austin rents are quite steep and location is everything - especially if you do not own a car.

Housing is a little complicated Austin, as you have to decide between the quite expensive aprtments on West Campus (close to the UT campus) and the cheaper ones further away.

I lived at Riverside. Many people told us not to do so. But it was very nice and cheap. It was a bit far from University, but the Shuttle Buses from the University were running frequently and it was no problem to get to the classes or to downtown or to shopping malls or whatever.
