Food is much more expensive here than it is in Germany and travel and housing as well. But I have a Young Persons Railcard which gives you up to 30% off all train fares and booking early is a way to ensure you get the cheapest tickets. The yearly (or termly) bus pass that you need when you don't have a car or bike comes with a discount coach card (30% off National Express tickets) but is quite expensive.

Household items can often be bought in charity shops .. and glasses and crockery are often fairly cheap at the beginning of term. The supemarket at the university is comparatively cheap as well.

Purchase a Students' Coach Card at the very beginning if you plan to travel around in Britain. National Express provides a very good coach network, especially to/from airports.

Because English currency is stronger than the "peseta", so everything seems to be more expensive, apart from the flight tickets!

I shared aflat with my girlfriend in France, where there is some state support for the housing. And food is a bit more expensive in England. Same for the drinks in pubs.
