The Air Liquide Forschung und Entwicklung GmbH (Air Liquide R&D) is one of 8 R&D Centers within the worldwide Air Liquide Group. The research activities focus on finding answers to pressing social challenges in the fields of environmental protection and the production and storage of energy.
We concentrate on innovative methods for the generation and application of industrial gases in areas like synthesis gas, gas purification, hydrogen mobility or the production of basic chemicals. Our special strength is the scale-up of results from numerous pilot plants to large scale and in close collaboration with internal and external partners from industry and science.
Presentation of the team
The core team dealing with Sustainability in Frankfurt currently consists of five people, the team manager (Italian) and 4 Engineers ((italian and German) working on Cost Estimation, Biomass Transformation and Life Cycle Analysis. Other members of the life cycle analysis projects are located in the R&D Centers in Paris (French) and USA (Slovak). The candidate will be mentored in Frankfurt by one of the research engineers.
In the light of the energy transition, we concentrate on innovative methods for the sustainable H2 and syngas generation, as well as the decarbonization of industrial gases and the production and storage of energy. The assessment of the environmental and economical impact of such methods is a key aspect for our company and our customers. You will get a great level of freedom of design and a personal training on the job.
In this context, along with your main mission in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), your activities will focus on the following:
? Perform assessment of novel process schemes in terms of environmental benefits using streamlined Life Cycle Assessment methodologies
? Find the best combination of customers and Air Liquide technologies to achieve the largest improvement in terms of economics and overall environmental footprint
? Conceptual process design and feasibility studies as basis for process scale-up.
? Development of process schemes and mathematical models (mass and heat transfers, thermodynamics) for process simulations
? Collaboration in interdisciplinary teams, execution of internal and external research projects
? Ensuring a close cooperation with internal and external customers, academics and start-ups
? Master degree in chemical/process engineering or technical chemistry or previous experience in the chemical process industries
? In depth experience in the field of reaction engineering, thermal processes or comparable subject areas
? Preferably experience in environmental engineering or sustainability and with conducting LCA studies
