The internship is located in the African Trade Policy Centre of the Regional Integration and Trade Division (RITD) at the (COMPANY NAME) Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
The internship is for four (4) months with with a possibility of extension, depending on the needs of the section.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
The ultimate objective of the African Trade Policy Centre is to promote trade among African countries to reduce poverty, support gender-sensitive outcomes, generate economic growth, create jobs and increase food security. to strengthen the human and institutional capacities of African Governments to formulate and implement sound trade policies and participate more effectively in trade negotiations at the bilateral, regional and multilateral levels.
The focus of this internship will be to assist the section in its work to undertake research and analytical work to support member States in the formulation, designing and implementing of trade policies.
Under the general guidance of the Director of the Division, and the direct supervision of the Coordinator and assigned staff of ATPC, the incumbent will carry out the following functions:
1.Researches, extracts and compiles basic information and technical data on specific programmes/projects and related topics and issues.
2.Sorts, consolidates, extracts and processes data and enter into relevant database.
3.Assists in monitoring developments/issues on subjects or areas assigned by collecting, selecting, analysing and compiling materials from multiple sources, e.g., relevant databases, the library and the Internet.
4.Assembles original statistical material; adjusts reported data from different sources and load data into computerized database system.
5.Assists in the evaluation and examination of data sets for accuracy, clarity and validity.
6.Assists in the maintenance of relevant computerized databases.
7.Prepares a variety of reports, presentations, tables, lists, graphs, charts and/or diagrams for information and review by senior officers.
8.Prepares abstracts/bibliographic descriptions for inclusion in documents, articles, books and publications.
9.Assists with the proofreading of written materials (reports, studies and working papers) to ensure they are ready for publication.
10.Reviews, stores, classifies, and maintains relevant computerized databases.
11.Performs other related work, as required.

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
* Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
* Be computer literate in standard software applications;
* Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
* Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
