The internship is centered on assisting The International Seabed Authority's (ISA) Communications Unit in producing and disseminating a range of strategic communications and public information products with a view to increasing the organization's visibility.
The minimum period for this positions is for two months with an opportunity for extension pending on the needs of the department.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Unit Chief.
The following responsibilities can be adapted, as appropriate, to fit each intern.
This opportunity is designed for an intern to work with experienced information professionals.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
* Assist in preparing public information materials, including press releases, newsletter articles, social media content and flyers;
* Explore potential social media initiatives to raise visibility of ISA's work;
* Help prepare daily ISA Morning News Headlines and monitor news clippings from local newspapers on relevant issues;
* Provide research for backgrounders/information materials;
* Assist in the organization and execution of special events to mark UN observances, press briefings, workshops, or exhibitions;
* Initiate and carry out assigned tasks/special projects.
* Help take photos of events, when required and provide assistance in enhancing photo library;
* Provide assistance in shooting, editing and creating videos.
* Assist with media outreach, and organization of press conferences for communications campaigns support on priority development issues,
* Update media lists,
* Write for and update ISA websites and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr),
* and media monitoring.
Knowledge in digital multimedia presentation using software applications such as Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator is desirable.

To qualify for an internship within the Communications Unit of the The International Seabed Authority Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
1. Applicants must:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must
commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar.
3. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
4. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

English or French are the working languages of ISA. For the internship advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
