UNICRI is a (COMPANY NAME) entity established in 1965 to support countries worldwide in preventing crime and facilitating criminal justice. UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI' s goals are:

- to advance understanding of crime-related problems;
- to foster just and efficient criminal justice systems;
- to support the respect of international instruments and other standards;
- to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance.

This position is located in UNICRI HQ (Turin, Italy) and within the "Pilot Project on Countering Violent Extremism in the Sahel-Maghreb", which is aimed at strengthening the capacities of local civil society actors in Maghreb and Sahel regions, including youth, media, and religious groups, to build resilience within society to withstand radicalization to violence. The project is also evaluating the actions implemented by local actors in order to identify good practices in conflict mitigation. The internship is for an initial period of two months, with a possibility of an extension for up to a total period of six months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the programme. Preferable beginning date - mid-January 2020.

Responsibilities

The intern will assist the project team by performing the following tasks:
-Entering data collected through questionnaires administered to project participants in Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Morocco and Tunisia;
-Preparing short summaries (in English, French and possibly Arabic) of substantive material for publishing on the electronic knowledge management system and assisting in maintaining and improving the knowledge management system;
-Verifying and mapping participants of training events, conducting a comparative analysis of participant profiles and identifying ways to present findings in a graphically appealing manner;
-Assisting in the implementation of the programme's media plan by producing written material, such as feature stories, articles, press releases, speaking points, presentations, and short news items, and preparing them for publishing on UNICRI's media channels, such as project newsletter, website, Facebook, Twitter or Medium account;
-Conducting research and drafting reports and other written output related to the programme;
-Analyzing, organizing and updating an inventory of substantive material produced during the period of implementation of grants by civil society actors. Special focus will be on analyzing and comparing reported perceptions of violent extremism;
-Monitoring news sources for articles and stories relevant to the programme;
-Perform other related duties upon request.

Education

A. Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
1. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
3. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

2. Applicants shall be computer literate in standard software applications.

3. Applicants shall have keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

4. Applicants shall have ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

1. Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the Programme. Are you a student in a Bachelor's (final year), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have you completed a degree and are able to commence an internship within a year of graduation?
2. Is your field of study closely related to the type of internship you are applying for?
3. Will you be able to cover the cost of travel including visa, accommodation and other living expenses for the duration of the internship?

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English and French is required.
Knowledge of other (COMPANY NAME) official languages is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the (COMPANY NAME) Secretariat.

Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and not publish any reports or papers based on such information except with the explicit written authorization of the Chief of CMU. Interns are bound by the same duties and obligations as staff members, and the information to which an intern has access in the course of the internship must not be divulged to external parties.

On completion of their internship, interns are required to complete a substantive report on their assignments. This will be included in their file and will be forwarded, upon request, to the sponsoring institution, government body or private organization.

UNICRI interns are responsible for all internship-related expenses that they incur. The (COMPANY NAME) accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during an internship. Therefore, upon award of an internship, interns are responsible for securing adequate insurance coverage and are required to sign and return a statement confirming their understanding and acceptance of these conditions of service.
