The internship position is located in the UN (COMPANY NAME) Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Country Office in Myanmar (COMYA). The envisaged starting date is November 2019 for a duration of 6 months.
The mission of UNODC is to contribute to the achievement of security and justice for all by making the world safer from drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism.
The work of the Country Office in Myanmar contributes to the Regional Programme Framework for East Asia and the Pacific in close cooperation with the Regional Office for Southeast Asia in Bangkok.
UNODC Office in Myanmar works to strengthen the country's legal and technical capacities to prevent and stop the trafficking of people, drugs, natural resources and smuggling of migrants; supports the judicial system in tackling corruption; strengthens criminal justice response to gender based violence and supports the increase of women in the police force; supports governments and civil society organizations to scale up access to a comprehensive package of services for drug users and the prevention, treatment and care of HIV among people who inject drugs; and supports Myanmar to sustain the reduction/elimination of opium poppy cultivation and prevent its expansion to high-risk areas.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours).

The internship programme of UNODC exposes qualified students specialized in various professional fields to the day-to-day working environment of the (COMPANY NAME). As part of our team, working directly with outstanding career professionals and senior management, applicants will take part in high-profile conferences and meetings, and contribute to analytical work as well as organizational policy of the (COMPANY NAME) where their educational experience can be enhanced.
The objective of the internship is to provide substantive, organizational and logistical assistance to the staff/experts in UNODC Office in Myanmar. In this process, the intern will gain knowledge of the substantive and operational aspects of UNODC's work, and indirectly the functioning of the (COMPANY NAME), as well as the related dimensions of transnational organized crime, gender-based violence and criminal justice, alternative development, anti-corruption, and drugs and health.
After six-month assignment, the intern will gain knowledge on the local situation of numerous criminal justice and crime related issues in the country and related national, regional and international legislations and framework. In addition, this internship will help the intern understand UNODC approaches to combating crime and drug related issues in the country and broaden his/her understanding of UNODC's missions and obtain the working experience in the UN system.
Under the overall guidance of the Country Manager in Myanmar, and directly reporting to the Programme Officer, specific assignments may include but not limited to:
*Conduct research on topics of relevance to UNODC Myanmar's Country Programme (e.g. gender-based violence);
*Support the programme team with the drafting and editing of reports, presentations, official communications, press releases, speeches and articles;
*Assist the programme team in coordinating with partners and stakeholders;
*Provide logistical support on activities such as the organization and reporting of conferences, events, training courses, etc.
*Support in-office activities such as office sustainability strategy and language training;
*Other tasks as assigned
*Strong interest in working in the UN system;
*Demonstrable skills in analytical thinking, communication and research;
*Good IT competence, command of main office software programmes, internet communication, social media and searching skills;
*Document and graphic design skills an asset;
*Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work under pressure within an international setting;
*Ability to perform a variety of administrative tasks;
*Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and a strong team working capacity.
To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
*Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION).
