The Climate Corporation is looking for a data science intern to join the SmartYield program within our science organization. We are seeking an exceptionally talented individual who is passionate about applications of big data and analytics in decision agriculture. This individual will work with interdisciplinary scientists to work on various aspects of exploratory data analysis, model development and deployment, and/or data feature engineering. You will have the opportunity to work with the richest agricultural datasets available in the world to help growers meet the challenges of feeding a growing population.
What You Will Do:
Analyze and conduct exploratory data analysis and/or model development, including machine/deep learning models, to identify and understand patterns in diverse, unstructured datasets
Manipulate, transform, and analyze abstract data structures
Select the most appropriate modeling techniques and data visualization for big data analysis
Engage in active research projects and produce clear, coherent technical reports, presentations and research documents in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Working towards completion of a BS, MS degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other scientific field conducting computationally intensive research
Proficiency in machine learning algorithms, statistical and mathematical programming packages such as R, Python and/or Matlab.
Demonstrated ability to work with complex data sets and perform exploratory data analysis and pattern recognition
Strong drive to learn new topics and skills
Ability and inclination to work in multi-disciplinary environments, and desire to see ideas realized in practice
Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in publicly available data analytics toolkits and experience in manipulating and analyzing large data sets
Experience with exploratory Big Data discovery through the use of technologies such as Tableau, Hadoop, MapReduce, SQL, or Spark
Problem solving skills to develop quick yet sound solutions to resolve complex issues
Ability to implement new algorithms efficiently and rigorously
