The position is located in the Multimedia Resources Unit (MRU) of the News and Media Division. The mandate of MRU is to provide audiovisual library and archival services and distribute multimedia contents to internal and external professional clients. The Unit also provides design, development, and technical support for multimedia websites. The unit is seeking interns interested in gaining professional, hands-on experience with multimedia archival collections management, access and preservation standards and best practices, specifically photo, film, video and audio materials. The internship is for a minimum of two months with a possibility for extension. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours). The Intern is under the supervision of the Chief of the Multimedia Resources Unit.
This opportunity is designed for an intern to work with experienced information professionals. Interns will be assigned to one or more of the multimedia libraries - Photo or Audiovisual Library - based on individual backgrounds and references. Interns will work on a variety of projects centred on multimedia collections.
Depending on assignment, project tasks may include the following:
* Assisting in the digitization project and distribution of multimedia materials
* Providing customer service for multimedia library clients
* Assisting in the ongoing maintenance of content management systems
* Processing and/or cataloguing archival collections
* Researching people or events covered by a collection
* Inventorying audiovisual material and documents
* Collaborate with staff on social media (Twitter, Flickr, etc.) efforts to promote library resources and services
* Speaks and writes clearly and effectively

To qualify for an internship with the (COMPANY NAME) New York Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
1. Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in a library science, audio-visual archives, communications, information science, media studies, journalism, or related field graduate programme; or (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a library science, audio-visual archives, communications, information science, media studies, journalism, or related field bachelor's degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree in library science, audio-visual archives, communications, information science, media studies, journalism, or related field (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the (COMPANY NAME) and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
